Workshop | Illuminated Ledger Book with Helen Shafer Garcia
Instructor: Helen Shafer Garcia
Date: Sunday, May 20th 2018
Time: 10 – 5
Class fee: $140
Workshop Description: What if you combined a ledger book style with Illuminated pages? How extraordinary! I always like to look for unique, uncommon combinations when I’m creating. This book will bring together text, original handwritten calligraphy ledger pages, with added color pencil organic oddities. You’ll receive a handmade illustrated hard cover to bind your book. Illuminate and create unexpected imagery onto pages throughout the book with color pencils and gold leaf using image transfers and stamps. Don’t worry about drawing abilities. Images will be available to copy and transfer. The emphasis will be on the art of blending colors, layering to create depth and saturation of colors. I’ll also teach you how to apply gold leaf, paint layers with acrylic patterns and stencil designs for a gilded aged look. Book construction will be a simple long stitch along the spine of the book.
Included in your workshop fee is 4 original Antique Ledger pages, cover image, gold and silver leafing and leafing adhesive. Helen will also bring acrylics to share and linen threads to bind your pages, close up images for reference, blender pens, stencils, awls, and tools to use while you work.
