Wrist Full of Words; Metal Stamped Bracelets
Instructor: Jen Cushman
Date: Saturday afternoon, October 20th
Time: 3:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Class Fee: $78.00
We’ll be exploring metal stamping as we create our empowered wrist full of words - metal focal bands. You will learn simple and effective techniques for getting the perfect impression every time. Additional metal-working techniques include cutting, texturizing, filing, drilling and patination. Learn how to cold connect fiber and metal with wire, how to make wire-wrapped bead links and also make your own clasps and closures. There is nothing pre-built with this wrap bracelet. Every piece will be created and assembled by YOU! This workshop is all about fun, color, joy and tapping into your independent spirit.
Never made jewelry before, you say? Please, don’t worry and come join Jen for a fun workshop. Her style is to always teach foundation techniques for beginners in her mixed-media jewelry classes. For example, she’ll be demonstrating how to make several individual bracelets that will give you the look of the wrap bracelet without the extra construction work for those who are new to jewelry making. For students who want to step it up, Jen will teach you how to string the components together to create double or triple wrap bracelets.
Supplies to bring:
(Jen and Patti will have some wire snips for cutting metal to share) You will need a small steel bench block and a hammer. We will be doing metal stamping so you’ll need your own tools to ensure you have time to work in class. Instructor will have a few extras to share. And The Queen’s Ink will also have tools to share. Jen will have a stash of beads to choose from, but feel free to bring your own if you have a specific color palette. And we will also provide a generous selection of ribbons to add to your Gypsy style bracelet. This is a fun bracelet and a creative way to learn metal stamping and other techniques that yiou can use with some of your other mixed media projects. This is also a great time to get into your bead stash (and/or repurpose some of your old jewelry you no longer wear) and use up those odds and ends!
Jen will provide copper sheet or blanks to stamp into, use of her Impress Arts metal stamps and bronze wire in various gauges. The Queen’s Ink will have a supply of tools available for purchase. Let us know what you may need.
