Art Escapade ~ Todos Santos 2026
We wanted to share a brief update regarding our Under the Baja Sun mixed-media art retreat in Todos Santos.
After thoughtful planning, we’ve decided to focus our creative energy on one intimate, fully curated retreat experience this season. As part of this refinement, the May 21–27, 2026 session will not be offered, allowing us to devote our full attention to creating the most immersive and supportive art experience possible.
We’re happy to share that this focus has also allowed us to open additional studio table space for the May 31–June 6, 2026 retreat. With this added space, we’re able to welcome a few more artists while still maintaining a spacious, unhurried, and highly supported creative environment.
Under the Baja Sun is designed as a soulful and inspiring retreat—where artists are guided step by step, creativity unfolds naturally, and every project is truly uniquely yours. Set in the peaceful coastal town of Todos Santos, this experience blends thoughtful instruction, meaningful connection, and restorative time by the sea.
May 31–June 6, 2026 (Sunday–Saturday)
Set in the magical artist enclave of Todos Santos, Mexico, this soulful retreat invites you to slow down, reconnect with your creativity, and create a one-of-a-kind layered sun assemblage—guided step-by-step, no matter your experience level.
Below, you’ll see six prototype sun samples created to spark ideas and show just how expressive and personal each piece can be. These samples are designed to inspire—because every sun is uniquely yours. With ocean breezes, stunning light, nourishing meals, and gentle creative guidance, this retreat is more than a workshop—it’s a gift to yourself. “Under the Baja Sun” Mixed-Media Assemblage
Each participant will receive a beautiful, unfinished Baltic Birch wood sun, thoughtfully designed with five dimensional layers and ready for your personal touch. Your sun kit will be mailed to you prior to the retreat, so you can arrive relaxed and ready to create. You’ll choose one base design (see photo below):
Option A: Festive-style sun
Option B: Aztec-style sun
Each sun measures 12" in diameter—easy to transport, yet substantial enough to become a striking finished piece. Once you have registered, you may email Dee with your Option A or Option B sun style selection.
During the retreat, we’ll guide you step-by-step as you bring your sun to life:
- Learn to work with paper clay using stamps and custom cutters
- Choose from a variety of forehead, eye and mouth designs provided
- Explore finishing options for the rays—painted or collaged paper
- Learn how to plan a cohesive color palette to unify your design
Kits will be mailed in early April, giving you plenty of time to gather favorite papers or
small embellishments (if desired) and plan your color palette. Each sun is meant to be
uniquely yours—no two will ever be the same.
Do I Need to Be an Experienced Artist?
Not at all. This retreat welcomes all skill levels, including those who feel a little unsure
about their abilities. Patti and Dee will guide you through the entire process with approachable, easy-to-follow techniques. We provide stamps and clay cutters for facial features, so you’re never starting from scratch. If color choices feel overwhelming, palette guidance is available prior to the retreat to help you feel prepared and confident. Feel free to contact us directly to schedule a color consultation. This experience is about learning and exploration—not perfection. You’ll be supported every step of the way. This project is more than a workshop piece; it’s a soulful artwork reflecting your time under the Baja sun.
Retreat Experience & Setting
Between creative sessions, enjoy the simple luxuries of retreat life—quiet moments by the sea, nourishing meals created by two private chefs, and meaningful connections with fellow artists. This experience is designed to inspire, restore, and delight. During our stay in Todos Santos, we’ll be immersed in the welcoming beauty of Los Colibris Casitas, a hidden gem offering a harmonious blend of nature and comfort. Vibrant birdlife, sweeping ocean views, and thoughtfully prepared meals create a serene backdrop for creativity. Each morning begins in the art studio overlooking the Pacific Ocean, while afternoons invite exploration—wandering colorful streets, strolling pristine beaches, relaxing by the pool, or simply soaking in the salty Baja breeze. Todos Santos is a historic artist colony located directly under the Tropic of Cancer, just one hour north of Cabo San Lucas—yet a world away. Known for its extraordinary light and creative spirit, the town is home to galleries, restaurants, and shops that reflect its artistic heritage. Visitors are warmly welcomed by a close-knit community eager to share their love of this special place.

Retreat Pricing Details:
• Retreat Price –$2,995 (double occupancy)
• Partner Plan: $1,599 (If space allows. Includes all group activities except the art
workshop.)
• Single Room Supplement Fee: $650 (very limited availability)
• Retreat Size: Limited to 13 students for an intimate experience.
