Artist trading cards have been around since the late 1990’s as a way for artists to meet in person and trade their small works of art. Initially there were only two rules; the size 2.5 x 3.5, the same format as baseball trading cards. Second, they must be traded and never sold. ATCs are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in the collaborative performance. Since the inception of this art form the rules have evolved and changed. The size is still 2.5x 3.5. However, many artists have found that there is a demand for their miniature art works and these are called ACEO’s.
If you are new to this art form or a seasoned ATC artist, come spend an afternoon with us exploring the popularity of Artist Trading Cards. ATCs are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.), or even metals, fiber, wax and other materials. We will provide you with lots of different surfaces to use for your ATCs as well as a variety of papers, and embellishments, quotes and stamps. We will decorate a small box to keep your cards and you can make as many cards as time permits.
If you are game, we can trade a few cards at the end of the session.
