Have you ever looked out across a landscape and desired to capture it with something other than a photograph? Have you ever had an idea that you wanted to express on paper, but didn’t feel like you knew where to begin? Have you ever wanted to add an element to a piece of artwork that you were working on, but didn’t have the confidence to add it freehand? Do you find drawing intimidating? Drawing/sketching is perhaps the most important skill for any artist to have in their skill box, but is also a subject area that many have a desire to grow in. It is also not a skill that cannot be learned overnight, but this series will start at the beginning and help anyone, at any level, grow from where they are.
This class will establish a foundation for drawing and will teach gradation, shading, balance, and line creation. You will learn how to layout elements, draw what you are seeing, and how to use different drawing techniques. We will be primarily working with charcoals and graphite. Taught over six sessions, there will be a lot that we will work on and an extensive amount of individual attention given to each student.
The Queen's Ink will provide you with everything you need for this class. Each student will receive an extensive kit with a $75 value. The kit includes a 11”x14” spiral bound sketch book, set of earth tone pastels, hard and soft vine charcoal, a General’s #15 Charcoal Set (compressed charcoals, charcoal pencils, kneaded eraser, sharpener, white charcoal pencil, white compressed charcoal, and a carbon sketch pencil), sealer, and a tool box to store and transport it all.
Students may want to bring additional drawing pencils.
I absolutely loved the 6 session beginner drawing class. Anna is a fantastic teacher and her great personality and love of art shined through every session. She made learning how to get started with each project approachable. It was reassuring that she made herself available for assistance and pointers beyond the class time and our ability to make up a class if life got in the way of the fun.
I feel empowered and in awe of what I was able to do in my first formal drawing class. I don’t think the bit I had in art class in junior high decades ago counts! As a true beginner, I am pleased with what I was able to accomplish. I’ve included pictures of the projects as they were done by the end of the class. Cubes are still a challenge and I definitely need tips on how to capture things coming at me, like the antlers.
I must admit I debated a good while before signing up because of the commitment even more so than the price tag. But the kit that was included is fantastic! The entire experience was soooo worth the price of admission! The kit includes everything we need to explore shading, tone, highlights, shadow and so much more. And as I’ve learned over the last four years of my exploration into various art methods, techniques and mediums taught at the Queen’s Ink, what I’m learning (yes, I’m truly a continuous work in progress) will translate to all the other areas I have experienced and now love.
Outstanding class. I highly recommend it to everyone, beginners and all other levels alike. Anyone who just wants to enjoy a great art class in a few hours in a beautiful inspiring setting with great ladies. The six weeks flies by!
