Mexican Folk Art Santos : Pewter and Polymer Clay with Elitia Hart

Inspired by Mexican Folk Art, this project will have you explore the technique of combining two molds to create a polymer clay head and crown for your santos. You will use stamping techniques and a wax patina to create clay roses and embellishments and a luscious lead free pewter sheet will be embossed to create flexible wings and sides with basic metal embossing tooling techniques. This class is limited to 15 students.
Elitia will explain how to melt metal ingots to create the hand embellishments using flexible molds and a simple heat source. Completed Project measures 14 inches x 6 inches ( 36 cm x 14 cm)
Metal tools will be provided for use during class and Elitia will provide all material for the Santos necessary to complete the project.
Skill level : Beginner to Intermediate
Student Supply List: Apron, E-xacto knife and small to medium size self-healing mat, ruler, scissors, and several small round brushes.
