Workshop | Off The Chain – Easy Basic Wire Jewelry with Jen Cushman
Instructor: Jen Cushman
Date: Sunday afternoon, April 30th
Time: 2:30 – 5:30
Class Fee: $55.00
Your collage pendants are so beautiful they need a handmade chain to properly showcase them. Learn the basics of working with wire to make swirly components, ribbon and wire bead links and a shepherd’s hook clasp. As an added bonus, create the pretty vintage lace bracelet displayed on your jewelry box assemblage. (Bracelet project completed in this class. Should you choose not to experience wire working, we’ll adjust your jewelry box front with additional resin paper and embellishments during that class,) This class will have a hand out in order for you to refer back to when you need it. While it may seem challenging, please know that you can do this. I’ve taught my successful Wire Links, Clasps and Chain class to hundreds of beginning jewelry making students.
*Note: If you have them bring your jewelry tools such as round nose jewelry pliers, chain nose jewelry pliers, wire snips, ball peen hammer and a small steel bench block or traveling anvil for this class. It helps to have the Wubbers large mandrel pliers, but you can make do with a Sharpie Marker and a pencil to use as a mandrel.
Also Note: The Queen’s Ink has lots of pliers and jewelry tools you can borrow and share, so don’t let not having all of the tools stop you from taking this excellent class!
The last class of the "Royal Resin Weekend with Jen Cushman"-----April 28th, 29th, 30th 2017
Resin is a fundamental medium in my art toolbox because it can, literally, transform itself into just about anything my brain can dream up and my hands can make. A crystal clear liquid that becomes solid in 8 hours, resin takes my mixed-media collage, jewelry and assemblage work to soaring heights. Take a journey with me on a three-day adventure at one of the BEST mixed-media art stores in the country - the Queen’s Ink.
I’ve been teaching resin to students across the country for eight years. I have a clear road-map of how to get from Point A to Point Z in a weekend. You’ll be building essential skills and not even realizing it because you’ll be having the artsiest time of your life. While each class works independently, the true magic is in the full weekend.
We begin Friday night with the fundamentals of collage and making and using resin paper with colorful tag art. Saturday we study proportion and scale as we use our shiny new collage skills to make a trio of fabulous wearable art pendants. Saturday afternoon we delve into found objects, mold making and resin casting. This is when liquid resin goes three-dimensional! Sunday morning, we’ll take those fab castings and use them as the focal art for a jewelry box assemblage (because you must have someplace to store all that new jewelry). Finally, Sunday afternoon I’ll teach you wire working basics to turn a spool of 16 gauge wire into bead links and components to make your own necklace. Even the clasp is made by you. Nothing pre-made or manufactured here. Never made jewelry before? Please don’t fret. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to do with a little hands- on instruction. Note: Jen has designed these class to work together, however they can be stand-alone. So you may sign-up for any one individually or as many as you would like.
